Soooooooo....lots of stuff happening over here! Julia had her meeting with the Spina Bifida team on Tuesday. It was a very long day, but no surprises. She does have a slight curve to her spine and a little piece of bone where it shouldn't be, so we will be seeing a spinal Dr. at some point. She will be getting some fancy AFO's for her feet, too. She is pretty happy about that because she will be able to move faster and not fall down as much. The goal is basketball, ya know! She will also be having a nice, looooong MRI in the next few weeks too. The Nuero Dr. needs to know exactly where her lesion was and maybe find out what all these mystery scars are. Right now they are thinking she had a Lypomyelmeningocele, which is a fatty mass that attaches to the spine and nerves. So, that's where we are with that!
In other news we have started getting ready for school. They are thinking about putting Julia into 3rd grade, but I would prefer 1st. She is no where near like a 3rd grader socially. More like 1st. But, either way she has a lot of catching up to do! And she is dying to learn! I was trying to figure out how to teach her the sounds the letters make.....hard to do when she is still learning English. My sister suggested just teaching her words first. So, I thought we should start with some sight words. We are on day 2 and she and Joy LOVE it! I wrote 5 words across the top of the board and they each spell them out with me and say them. Then they write them down 2 times. Joy gets a little silly, but Julia practices for a very long time, trying to get each letter perfect. She's gonna love school!
When it is not pouring.....which is rare lately, we are outside. The Lilac is blooming and the entire block smells soooooo good! If I could just bottle it up for winter! Many flowers are blooming and Julia loves to take pictures of all of them. We go thru a lot of batteries! We also have some new members of our birdie family! They are brand new!
